It’s holiday time & what a magical time it is!
Oh how I love this time of year!!
This is the time of year I like to dream a bigger dream, pursue a bigger goal and set a bigger intention.
I’m not much for shopping, especially this time of year, I just get so overwhelmed. The shopping malls and department stores are packed with people hustling around, hurriedly trying to get through the store. I’ve had people run into the back of my legs with their cart and look at me like I shouldn’t have been in their way. Wait, what? But, you ran into me? Oh, well, such is the season and since I like to keep my sanity, I just stay away!
But I still believe that this magical time of year brings forth the good inside each one of us.
So, it makes me wonder, why have we turned it into a hockey match where we are pushing and shoving each other for the latest gadget or toy? Why have we allowed the media and the department stores to dictate to us what is important? What kind of legacy are we leaving for our children? What kind of example are we setting?
Even though I hand make all my gifts, it can still be a bit overwhelming. This is the time of year I’m the hardest on myself and it makes me wonder, why we do it? We already have stress in our life on a daily bases, why do we add stress to our holiday and lose our mind? I decided a few years back that instead of going to the stores and getting knocked around by people over stuff, I would sit down and write down my vision for the year ahead.
So, what would it look like if we took a break from the expected, norm and started rethinking this magical time of year. Wouldn’t this be a great time to talk about the dreams and visions you have for your family going into the next year? If we think of this time of year with the intention of dreams and visions for a better life and a better world, what would that look like? What is the meaning of having a dream?
Your dream is your passion to create something greater than yourself. It’s what you were meant to jump out of bed everyday to do with a smile on your face. So, what does that look like for you and your family? This season, why not consider taking time to slowing down, reset your priorities and start doing the things that bring more meaning and joy to you and your family’s life.
Instead of following along with the Christmas mayhem, why not spend some quality time with your family? They won’t remember the latest gadget or the most fashionable toy, but they will remember the time you spent together… decking the halls, stringing the popcorn, listening to Christmas carols, baking cookies and drinking hot chocolate by the fireplace. Wouldn’t this be a good time to create some magic by setting an example for the children in your life? How about going out of your way to help others? Or coming together as a community to collect food for the local food bank? Or, maybe picking a family in need living in your community and providing them with a Christmas tree & dinner?
Your friends and family don’t need half the stuff they get and buying them the biggest or the best gift doesn’t make you more worthy of love.
Use the magic of this the time of year to dream bigger dreams for you, your family, your community and the world. Don’t ignored the dreamer any longer, don’t loose yourself in the hustle and bustle of the season. I heard a song with the lyrics, “You can ignore the dreamer, but you can’t deny the dream”. Is that what you’re doing? Are you ignoring the dreamer and denying your dreams?
Your dream is a living legacy, something you can feel good about everyday, you don’t have to get it or buy it, you just create it. Your vision for your life and family is more than just a wish list of the things you want, it’s more about what you can do together to make a better family, a better community, a better nation and a better world.
What does it take to hold onto the vision of your dream?
- Well, the first step is to take care of the dreamer inside of yourself. Remembering that you are a human “being”, and that just being is good enough, you don’t have to do anything.
- Be your authentic self. Its only when you try to be someone your not that you get stagnant and do nothing or, worse yet, think that you have to do it all.
- Take the actions necessary to birth your dream.
It’s your ego that tells you that you have to have the best or be the best or give the best. Your ego puts up barriers and road blocks that keep you from moving forward. The ego tells you that you are not good enough or big enough and brings up the fears inside you. Don’t let your ego get in the way because….
underneath the chaos of the season we are all fabulous people, living fabulous lives.
If you feel like you’re stuck on automatic pilot or like a zombie, just trying to get it all done, remember this… stay in your power! You have what it takes to set the vision and create the dream. Fill the gap between dreamer and dream by using this magical time of year to take inspired action towards building the life you love.
What a magical time it is!! A season of love, peace on earth and good will toward men. With this in mind, together, we can create a better world. The dream knows more than we do, we are the servers of that dream and we are the only ones who can bring it to reality. Don’t give up your dream, it the only way to create a better world. If each one of us takes the time to create the change we want to see in the world, then we will all persevere!
DREAM BIG, because this season is bringing change, and it starts with you….
